reconciliation day at llandudno beach

Yesterday was a holiday and it was a gorgeous day, so people were out in numbers at the beach. Llandudno was full but relatively sparse compared to some beaches.

Reconciliation Day occurs every December 16, which is the day of two charged events. Under apartheid the day was celebrated as Day of the Vow, commemorating the vow the Voortrekkers took to build a church if they beat the Zulus in battle that day. Beat them they did, killing thousands.

On the other side of the spectrum, Umkhonto we Sizwe, the military wing of the ANC, was founded on December 16.
